If you know your roots, tout it

you can laugh and shout about it

for dark roots don’t cry about it

the shame’s on those who pout about it

old folks wanna fight about it

young one’s still have doubts about it

blood is red, roots don’t care about it

hearts are gold, soul only talks about it

from Africa Jews fled to a distant land

from the Bible folks learned to take a stand

where once we all used to hold out a hand

we lost what no one seems now to understand

nature gives weight to all its grains of sand

compassion for brothers and sisters may be grand

but until we learn to love and follow its command

the rap is on all of us to live by the beat of its band.
